The “In my room…” project is intended for students to think about the idea of personal space. If you could create a space (or a room) that was tailored to all your interests, what would that look like? What kinds of things would be inside of it?
Class Questions
– What are your favorite items in your room?
– What is your favorite room to visit?
– Do you share this room with anyone else?
– Is your favorite room outside? inside? underwater? on land? in space?
Let’s take a look at the process!
- Supplies is laid out very neat and organized, so things will be very easy to find.
- So many colors! So many options! Time to get creative.
- There are some sad empty rooms just WAITING to be decorated with materials!
- The idea is to create a space (or a room) that you like to be in. This model is of a classroom, because teachers like Holly, Zoe and Asia like their classrooms! As you can see, there were a lot of different materials used like paper, clay, foam core, popsicle sticks, and string
- Kayle’s favorite place to be is her bedroom, so she made a bed out of a sponge and red pipe cleaner. Good thinking using those available resources!
- Finishing up some glazing from our first project. Lisa is pretty excited to start making her room!
- Kelsey is feeling much better, and can finally add fun colors to her mugs.
- Lisa has added a base layer of white to one of her walls to get rolling.
- Kelsey is using a brush with many bristles to spread purple to her walls more efficiently.
- Kelsey is hard at work creating a pipe cleaner Tipi. There is a lot of detail accompanied by patience to creating this structure!
- Heidi’s favorite place is the forest. She has found some great found objects from outside the classroom to include in her space.
- Everyone is very hard at work! Holly has a clay box for anyone that wants to experiment with texture.
- Brian is SUPER excited about his drawing with markers. Check out that interesting texture where it is blue!
- Zoe and Heidi critique her glazed mug.
- The walls of Heidi’s “room” are silhouettes of the Colorado mountains. She noticed that those blue beads reflect light like water, so she thought they would make a great addition to her lake.
- Bird’s eye view of Kelsey’s purple bedroom! If you look closely, she also added windows and a bookshelf.
- Kelsey getting creative with her room. Inspired by pictures of teepee’s she started working with pipe cleaners creating her own abstraction from what she observed.
- Farrah’s room had several windows with a view.
- Lisa finishing up her room, she is such a focused artist.
- Lisa’s room is really coming together!
- Kelsey’s wire sculpture hanging off her cardboard room.
- Farrah’s room all finished.
- Lisa used foam sheets in multiple colors to decorate her room.
- After Heidi made a fish she started creating other little critters for her forest.
- Heidi wanted to make sure she got her deer just right, using molding clay helped her re-work the form.
- Kelsey’s collection, her room, mug and slab.
- Heidi’s mug next to Kayle’s mug with a hat.
- Lisa’s glazed mugs and orange tear drop face.
- Kelsey’s collection was vast, she really enjoyed working with clay.
